Music Artists With Unique Costumes

Here are our favourite costumed music artists.

It can be difficult to break into the music scene with so many artists trying to make it to the top. One of the ways you can really make your voice be heard is by shocking people with your style.

There are many popular artists from around the world whose unique music is only accentuated by their one of a kind costumes. Some of these artists include Daft Punk, Patenbrigade: Wolff, Sickick, and Deadmau5.

In this article, we will review these artists and delve into their styles of music and apparel, where they come from, and what has made them so popular.

Daft Punk

Daft Punk is two man team from France who originally designed their robotic costumes to keep their identities anonymous when they performed in public. Since their rise to popularity, however, fans have discovered that the Paris natives are actually Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo.

Their music is electronic with elements of techno, hip hop, pop, indie rock, disco, and funk thrown in for good measure. They have four studio albums released in the late 1990s all the way to the late 2010s. They also provided the instrumental soundtrack for Disney’s Tron: Legacy in 2010.

Patenbrigade: Wolff

Patenbrigade: Wolff is a group hailing from Berlin, Germany whose style needs no introduction. Decked out in the bright orange and reflective silver of construction works, Patenbrigade: Wolff is easily recognizable wherever they go.

Their music genre is electronic with a heavy hand in synthesizers and the influence of ambient, club, pop, techno, and industrial music. They boast everything from club hits to electropop ballads and their jams can be heard pumping through the bass of speakers all over Germany and the world.

Patenbrigade: Wolff was founded in 1998 and features four men and one woman who know how to perform as artists both musically and dramatically. Their shows are unforgettable as they weave their construction worker costumes into a narrative that only accentuates the unique aspect of their music.

With a handful of studio CDs available for digital download, their major influences are cited as bands such as Future Sound of London, Depeche Mode, Front 242, Tangerine Dream, and Kraftwerk.

Sickick

Sickick is the stage name for a uniquely masked DJ who remixes popular songs. He originally comes from Canada and is known as Lomus Rai Babber. Sickick is his solo act that went completely viral with his TikTok videos especially of Bruno Mars’ “Talking to the Moon.”

He had been making music with the band Culture Shock for about ten years when he decided to venture on his own. His signature mask is a rhinestone studded piece with breathing vents like Darth Vader and a curvy mark over the right eye that reminds you of the snake video game.

Deadmau5

Deadmau5 is another popular Canadian DJ who sports a very recognizable headdress. His full mask is that of a mouse with X’s through the eyes. His real name is Joel Thomas Zimmerman. Supposedly, he came up with his stage name after he found a dead mouse in the guts of his computer as a teenager.

Deadmau5 produces his own music that is mainly progressive house music although he also dabbles in electronic and techno music as well. He has been active since the late 1990s with eight studio albums released since 2005.

Deadmau5 has been in many disputes with other artists and companies including a trademark quarrel over Walt Disney’s iconic Mickey Mouse symbol which is remarkably similar to Deadmau5’s.

Marshmello

Christopher Comstock may not be as familiar a name to you as his DJ personality alternative Marshmello. This Philadelphia native is a global sensation producing electronic music and remixes in the genres of future bass, progressive house, and trap.

Marshmello went internet famous in the mid-2010s and has been a powerhouse on the electronic music scene with four studio albums since then. His iconic costume of a marshmallow head with X’s for eyes and he cites Deadmau5 as a major influence on both his music and his style.

He has been nominated for Top Billboard Awards and won International Dance Music, iHeartRadio, and MTV Europe Awards for his music.

What can you take from this?

You can’t just have the talent for music to get into the business and become a star. You need to have a unique personality with unmistakable style especially if you are looking to be recognizable in the world of electronic and club music.

Artists such as Marshmello, Deadmau5, and Daft Punk know how to captivate their fans by putting on a show and making the experience unique for their audience. Whether it is providing a bit of mystery by concealing their identity with a mask or playing up the dramatics by pretending to be a work construction crew, these uniquely costumed artists know how to capture your attention.
